Reading police are investigating a shooting that injured two people at City Park on Monday (March 31) afternoon. The incident occurred just before 4:30 p.m. at the basketball courts near the intersection of Washington and N. 11th streets.

According to the Reading Police Department, two adults were shot—one in the chest and the other in the neck. Both victims were transported to Reading Hospital and are expected to survive. One victim was taken to the hospital in a personal vehicle.

Authorities reported that at least 15 shots were fired, but it remains unclear if the victims were targeted. Multiple crime scenes were established within the park, including the basketball courts and the surrounding areas. Police are actively investigating the circumstances leading up to the shooting and have urged anyone with information to contact the Reading Police Criminal Investigation Division at 610-655-6246 or submit an anonymous tip via Crime Alert Berks County.

Witnesses, like a young man known as "Gee Gee," expressed their concerns about the violence, urging, "Stop the violence. Put the guns down." Despite the incident, city officials and community members maintain that City Park is generally a safe area.

As the investigation continues, authorities are working to gather more information and ensure the safety of the community.
