Health officials say Berks County in the past four days has seen a surge in the case counts of the COVID delta variant. Statistics available from Sunday, the most recent count available, show 307 new COVID cases and reinfections. That adds to the nearly 66-thousand 500 total for the county since the pandemic began. Right now, 147 people are in the hospital with 23 of those in intensive care.
