Reading Police Chief Says Hoax School Calls Are Big Challenge
(Reading, PA) -- Reading Police Chief Richard Tornielli says false calls to report bombs or shootings at area schools are a big challenge. He tells WFMZ-TV that even though most of them turn out to be a hoax, his department still has to use its resources to provide a full investigation to make sure of that. Some Pennsylvania lawmakers are looking at legislation that would make it a felony for falsely reporting emergency threats at schools. However, Chief Tornielli says that might not solve the problem because investigators have discovered many of the false calls originate from overseas.
