New Reading Police Chief Hails From Tampa
(Reading, PA) -- A man who was most recently the assistant police chief in Tampa, Florida is moving north to become the top cop in Reading. The Reading City Council unanimously agreed to hire Elias "Eli" Vazquez as the city's new chief of police. He served in the Tampa area for 26 years, rising through the ranks to assistant chief. Vazquez, who is bilingual, is expected to start by early February. Reading has been without a permanent police chief since July when Richard Tornielli retired to become chief in West Reading.
