PennDOT Says Two Reading Bridges Need Work

(Reading, PA) -- The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation says two bridges in Reading need significant rehabilitation. During a meeting Monday night, Reading City Council was informed by a PennDOT official that the bridges at Centre Avenue and North Fifth Street both have problems. Both of the bridges, which run over Norfolk Southern Railroad lines, either need to be raised or removed, as Norfolk Southern now has double-stacked-train cars. Once plans for the bridges are created, a public presentation is expected to take place, as homes in the surrounding areas are expected to be heavily impacted.
