An 18-wheeler carrying over 40,000 pounds of sugar overturned on I-176 in Robeson Township, Pennsylvania, causing the highway to be closed for several hours. The incident occurred in the early hours of September 3rd, 2024, at 4:39 am, according to the Friendship Fire Company of Geigertown.
The truck crossed the median and rolled over, but the sugar it was carrying was contained within the trailer. The driver of the truck was reportedly trapped in the vehicle, but first responders from the Friendship Fire Company of Geigertown and Tower Direct confirmed there was no entrapment upon arrival. However, there was a small diesel fuel leak from the truck.
The driver was taken to a local hospital by Ambulance 89-1 and Tower Direct Paramedics. The condition of the driver is currently unknown. The fire company units remained on the scene to assist with traffic control and to wait for the arrival of a tow company. The road was reopened at 6:03 am.
