UPDATE: New Details Released In Reading Murder-Suicide, Baby In Critical Condition
(Reading, PA) -- The Berks County District Attorney's Office released additional details yesterday about the murder-suicide in Reading that also severely injured an infant. The two-month-old is in stable but critical condition after they were found with a gunshot wound. The investigation is ongoing.
POSTED YESTERDAY 2/18:
In Reading, Pennsylvania, a suspected murder-suicide on Monday (February 17) left two adults dead and an infant injured. Authorities responded to a 911 call reporting gunshots at a home on the 1200 block of Locust Street around 2:15 p.m. Upon arrival, police found two deceased individuals and a baby with a gunshot wound. The infant was airlifted to a hospital for treatment, though the condition remains unknown.
Berks County District Attorney John Adams described the incident as a domestic situation involving a boyfriend and girlfriend. "It's very sad and very tragic," Adams said. He confirmed that the child's parents were involved in the suspected murder-suicide, but it is unclear who was the shooter and who was the victim.
Neighbor Kaitlyn Wawrzyniak witnessed the police response, noting the presence of the SWAT team and officers blocking off the street. "Whenever a vulnerable young child suffers a gunshot wound, it really...it hurts," Adams expressed.
This incident marks the second deadly domestic violence case in Reading in recent weeks. Adams emphasized the need for more effective measures to prevent such tragedies, citing the prevalence of firearms as a significant issue. "There's too many guns, too many guns on the street," he stated.
Authorities have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat, and the investigation is ongoing. The names of the deceased have not been released.
