The newly installed security gates at the Pagoda in Reading, Pennsylvania, will become operational tonight. These gates, located along Skyline Drive, are part of the city's efforts to enhance safety for both residents and visitors. Mayor Eddie Moran stated that the city received numerous complaints about late-night gatherings involving loud music and illegal dumping at the park.
According to Reading Eagle, the gates will close every night at 9 p.m. to help maintain the area's tranquility. This measure is a response to ongoing issues, including large gatherings and illegal activities, that have been reported at the Pagoda.
In a recent incident, city officials addressed safety concerns after a weekend disturbance involving illegal dirt bikes and ATVs, which led to an officer being assaulted. As part of the response, Reading City Council decided to restrict access to a 1.8-mile section of Skyline Drive.
Mayor Moran emphasized the importance of preserving the beauty and safety of the mountaintop area for everyone. The city hopes that the new gates will deter illegal activities and ensure a peaceful environment at the Pagoda.
