Two individuals from Reading, Pennsylvania, Edgar Holguin-Reyes, 30, and Yakayra Reyes, 27, have been arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute approximately 14,000 fentanyl pills. The arrests followed a narcotics investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office in New Jersey, under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck.
On Sunday (March 30), authorities identified and stopped a vehicle on Interstate 287 in Mahwah, New Jersey, believed to be involved in drug trafficking. A court-authorized search of the vehicle led to the discovery of the fentanyl pills, which have an estimated street value of $420,000, according to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella.
Both Holguin-Reyes and Reyes have been charged with second-degree possession with intent to distribute fentanyl-laced pills and are currently held at the Bergen County Jail. They are awaiting their first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, New Jersey.
Prosecutor Musella emphasized that these charges are accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office expressed gratitude to the Mahwah Police Department for their assistance in the investigation.
The case highlights ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region, and further legal proceedings are anticipated.
