Man Arrested in Berks County After High-Speed Chase

A high-speed chase in Berks County on Wednesday night (June 11) ended with the arrest of 28-year-old Carlos Flores. The pursuit began in Reading when police attempted to pull Flores over for an active warrant. Initially stopping, Flores then accelerated, leading officers on a chase that reached speeds of 120 miles per hour. The chase concluded near the Adamstown exit of Route 222 after troopers deployed spike strips and used an unmarked vehicle to stop Flores' car.

Flores, whose last known address was in Ephrata, was taken into custody by state police from the Lancaster and Reading stations. According to Reading Eagle, he faces multiple charges, including felony counts of theft by unlawful taking, possessing a firearm while prohibited, and flight to avoid apprehension. Lesser charges include possession of marijuana and other controlled substances.

The chase began when Reading police Officer William Fursin III, alongside state parole agent Christopher Hall, identified Flores' vehicle through a license plate reader. Flores was wanted for allegedly stealing a gun from his ex-girlfriend after leaving a halfway house. During the chase, Flores' vehicle swerved dangerously, nearly hitting other cars, before being stopped by police intervention.

After his arrest, Flores was arraigned and committed to Berks County Jail with a bail set at $110,000. A search of his vehicle revealed a stolen 9 mm pistol, synthetic cannabis, and marijuana. Flores has a criminal history dating back to 2015, including a conviction for conspiracy to commit aggravated assault in 2022.
