EnerSys, a leading battery manufacturer based in Berks County, Pennsylvania, has announced significant corporate workforce reductions. The company plans to lay off approximately 575 employees, primarily in corporate and management roles. This decision affects about 11% of its non-production global workforce.
EnerSys stated that these cuts are part of a strategic restructuring plan aimed at aligning resources with current business priorities and long-term goals. President and CEO Shawn O'Connell explained that the company has spent the past six months evaluating how best to serve customers and enhance organizational efficiency. "Today's actions, while difficult, are necessary for EnerSys to remain competitive in our markets," O'Connell said.
The company expects the layoffs to be completed by the end of the second quarter of fiscal year 2026. EnerSys anticipates that these changes, along with other non-headcount-related actions, will result in approximately $80 million in annualized savings starting in fiscal year 2026. These savings include $70 million in operational savings and a $10 million reduction in costs of goods sold.
EnerSys did not specify which locations will be impacted by the layoffs. The company operates facilities worldwide, including a manufacturing plant in Horsham, Montgomery County, and a distribution center in Upper Macungie Township, Lehigh County.
The restructuring comes as EnerSys shifts some of its manufacturing back to the United States, closing a plant in Monterrey, Mexico, and moving production to Richmond, Kentucky. EnerSys, known for its industrial battery solutions, continues to adapt to evolving market demands and technological advancements in the battery industry.
