A construction worker was rescued on Wednesday (August 13) after a concrete floor collapsed at Governor Mifflin Middle School in Shillington, Pennsylvania. The incident occurred around 10 a.m. while renovation work was underway, causing the worker to fall nearly five feet and suffer a broken leg. Rescue crews, including Shillington Fire Company and Western Berks Fire Department, responded promptly, stabilizing the worker's leg and safely transporting him to an ambulance.
According to Reading Eagle, the school district has halted construction in the affected area pending a structural review. The district reassured parents that students would not have access to active construction zones. While some unfinished areas will be used by students, these are purely cosmetic and pose no risk. Construction at both the middle and high schools will continue throughout the school year, with measures in place to ensure student safety and minimize disruption.
The Governor Mifflin School District emphasized that student safety is their top priority and wished the injured worker a speedy recovery. The worker is reportedly in stable condition.
