A sugar truck crash early Friday (August 15) morning led to the closure of Pricetown Road, also known as Route 12, in Alsace Township, Pennsylvania. The accident occurred just after 2 a.m. when the driver lost control while navigating a curve near Skyline Drive, causing the truck to overturn and spill approximately 40,000 pounds of sugar onto the roadway.

According to WFMZ-TV, the road remained closed in both directions between Skyline Drive and Antietam Road for nearly 10 hours as crews worked to clear the sugar and remove the overturned vehicle. The cleanup operation was supervised by the PennDOT maintenance force from Berks County, and all lanes were reopened around noon.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, managed to exit the vehicle on his own. Reading Eagle reported that the cause of the crash is still under investigation by Pennsylvania State Police.
