Heavy rain in Reading, Pennsylvania, on Thursday (September 4) led to significant flooding on Spring Street. According to WFMZ-TV, the Spring Street underpass was quickly submerged, trapping vehicles as the water rose rapidly. The flooding left behind debris, including trash and mud, which crews had to clear.
Reading Fire Chief James Stoudt Jr. noted that the storm moved in swiftly, dumping a large amount of rain in a short period. Despite the severity of the flooding, no injuries were reported. Residents in the area have experienced similar flooding issues for decades, with some noting that even basements get flooded during such events.
The flooding on Spring Street is part of a broader weather pattern affecting the region. A dense fog advisory is currently in effect for several counties in Pennsylvania, including Schuylkill County, until 10 AM EDT today (September 5). The advisory warns of reduced visibility, urging drivers to exercise caution.
