Massive Fire in Berks County Overnight

A major fire broke out on Neversink Mountain in Reading, Berks County, leading to evacuations in the surrounding areas. The fire was reported around midnight and quickly spread due to strong winds. The blaze was visible from miles away, prompting officials to evacuate the 1300 block of Fairview Street and put neighboring streets on alert. The American Red Cross Pennsylvania Rivers Chapter has set up a temporary evacuation center for affected residents at Amanda E. Stout Elementary, located at 321 S. 10th St. Residents in need of assistance are urged to call 1-800-733-2767. Reading Eagle reports.

The fire was first reported in the area of Neversink Mountain Road in Alsace Township. Evacuations have begun in the area of South 18th and 19th Streets in Reading, and in the area of Ganter Lane and Neversink Mountain Road in Lower Alsace Township. Residents in these areas are asked to evacuate to the Amanda E. Stout Elementary School. WFMZ reports.
