The Reading Fightin Phils, a storied franchise in Minor League Baseball, have been sold to Diamond Baseball Holdings (DBH), as announced by former owner Craig Stein on Wednesday (June 25). Stein, who owned the team for nearly 40 years, expressed confidence that DBH will maintain the team's community engagement and charitable efforts. The Fightin Phils will continue as the Double-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, retaining their front office staff led by General Manager Scott Hunsicker.
The Fightin Phils have been an integral part of the Eastern League since 1967, sharing the record for the longest continuous affiliation in Minor League Baseball. They will continue to play at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, Pennsylvania, a historic ballpark that has undergone recent renovations to enhance the fan experience while preserving its classic charm.
DBH, which owns over 40 Minor League teams, is committed to enhancing club offerings through innovative tools and community-driven partnerships. Luke Murton, Phillies Director of Player Development, expressed gratitude for the Fightin Phils' dedication and looked forward to the positive impact DBH's leadership will bring to Reading.
Scott Hunsicker, who has been with the organization for 34 years, stated, "This is a bright new chapter for the R-Phils." He emphasized DBH's strong track record of enhancing fan experiences while honoring club identities and community roots. The transaction is expected to be completed soon, subject to MLB's consent and other standard closing conditions.
