School Bus Driver Cited After Crash in Reading, PA

A school bus driver in Reading, Pennsylvania, received a citation following a crash involving three school buses on Tuesday (August 26) morning. The accident occurred during the morning rush hour on Route 12, sending eleven children to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. According to the Reading Police, the driver was unable to stop his bus in time, resulting in a collision with the bus in front of him. The crash happened in the westbound lanes near the Route 422 interchange.

WFMZ-TV reported that the police remained on the scene to investigate and manage the cleanup. The Reading Fire Department confirmed the involvement of three buses in the crash, although the specific school district of the students has not been disclosed.

While the injuries were not severe, the incident highlights ongoing concerns about school bus safety. According to Newsweek, school bus crashes have been a significant issue nationwide, with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reporting 971 fatal school-transportation-related crashes between 2014 and 2023.
