A Berks County man, Jose Luis Rodriguez, 61, is facing multiple first-degree murder charges for the deaths of Geraldina Peguero-Mancebo, her one-year-old son Jeyden, and her husband, Junior Cabrera-Colon. Rodriguez, who was initially charged with Cabrera-Colon's murder, now faces additional charges following his confession to the murders of Peguero-Mancebo and her child.
According to Berks County District Attorney John Adams, Rodriguez admitted to killing the family over two days earlier this month. The tragedy began when Rodriguez picked up Peguero-Mancebo and her son on September 12, intending to kill her because she refused to leave her husband. Rodriguez shot Peguero-Mancebo in the back of the head while she held her son in Ontelaunee Township. He then took Jeyden to a nearby pond and left him to drown, as reported by WPVI.
The next day, Rodriguez met with Cabrera-Colon in Reading, shot him, and disposed of his body in a park. Peguero-Mancebo and her son were reported missing and later found dead on September 19 and 20. Their bodies were discovered about 150 yards apart.
Rodriguez had a personal relationship with Peguero-Mancebo, having previously worked together at a warehouse. He claimed to be enraged because he believed she was taking his money. The Berks County District Attorney's office is considering seeking the death penalty for Rodriguez, who remains in custody according to FOX 29.
