DHS, Stelson Campaign Respond After Immigrant's Arrest

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Janelle Stelson congressional campaign have responded to the arrest of Chimaobim Adedayo Igbojekwe, a Nigerian national accused of indecent exposure in East Pennsboro Township, Pennsylvania. Igbojekwe, 35, was arrested on September 27 after reportedly being found with his pants down in a car. Initially charged with indecent exposure and disorderly conduct, he later pleaded guilty to one count of disorderly conduct, with the indecent exposure charge withdrawn.

According to Local 21 News, Igbojekwe claimed he was waiting to distribute flyers for the Stelson campaign. However, the campaign firmly denied any association, stating, "This individual has never been employed by the Stelson campaign. If he is an illegal immigrant who committed a crime he should be deported."

DHS reported that Igbojekwe was lawfully admitted to the U.S. in 2017 but overstayed his authorized period, which expired in 2019. He was granted deferred action in 2021. ICE arrested him on October 1.

The DHS statement, as reported by the Washington Examiner, identified Igbojekwe as a former canvasser for Stelson, a claim the campaign refutes. ICE Deputy Director Charles Wall criticized the idea of employing an illegal immigrant in a congressional campaign.

Janelle Stelson, a Democrat challenging Rep. Scott Perry in Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District, previously lost to Perry in 2024. The campaign emphasized its commitment to law enforcement and denied any ties to Igbojekwe.
