(Washington, D.C.) -- Pennsylvania's former secretary of health is officially the nation's first openly transgender four-star officer. On Tuesday, Dr. Rachel Levine was sworn in as an admiral for the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. Levine says she is honored to take this role for the impact she can make and for the historic nature of what it symbolizes. She added that she stands on the shoulders of those LGBTQ-Plus individuals who came before her, both known and unknown, and may this appointment be the first of many to come.
