City Leaders Approved Tearing Down of Bernhart Dam

>> City Leaders Approved Tearing Down of Bernhart Dam

(Reading, PA) -- Reading's city council has come up with a unique solution to a dam that's been deemed high-risk by the Department of State's Environmental Protection Agency. Some four years ago, they said Bernhart Dam would need to be removed or replaced. The city councilors Monday night agreed to offer a contract to break the dam for a little over 89-thousand dollars. The dam is in Muhlenberg Township but is owned by the city. Bernhart Park, where the dam is located, is contaminated with lead from a former Exide Technologies plant.
