>>Reading Officials Vote to Give Grocer $750K to Finish New Store

(Reading, PA) -- A new grocery store in a "food desert" area of Reading may soon be finished thanks to an injection of federal funds. Reading's City Council voted 6-1 Monday night to give builder Leopoldo Sanchez 750-thousand-dollars in American Rescue Plan Act funds. He'll use it to complete transforming an old, brick garage into a 21st century natural foods grocery store. The third Super Natural & Fresh Produce store is planned for the site at North Fourth and Elm streets. Work on the project had been delayed for two years because of the pandemic.
