Officials: Cause of Fatal Fire was Smoking in Bed

(Reading, PA) - The Reading Fire Marshal's office says Scot Bataller's death in a December fire was caused by smoking in bed. Fire crews were dispatched to the home in the 200 block of North Kenhorst Boulevard after a neighbor reported seeing heavy smoke. Officials say the 58-year-old Bataller died in a first floor bedroom. He wasn't able to get out of the house because of a medical condition that affected his mobility.
