Woman Wounded In 1998 Shooting Dies From Injuries
(Reading, PA) -- A Berks County woman who was shot by her brother almost 25 years ago has died from her injuries. The Lehigh County Coroner's Office ruled the cause of death for Tina Hertzog was complications from paraplegia and the manner of her death was homicide. The 45-year-old woman was originally shot January 31, 1998 in the 1100 block of Birch Street in Reading. Her then 18-year-old brother was charged with, and found guilty of, simple assault and reckless endangerment but was acquitted of more serious charges. The Berks County DA says based on that verdict, his office can't pursue homicide charges because it would make it a case of double jeopardy.
