(Reading, PA) -- Nearly four-million-dollars is expected to be spent soon in Reading on new homeless shelters and support services. The money from an American Rescue Plan grant approved Tuesday by Reading City Councilors will also include funds for affordable housing. The proposal now heads to the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development for review. Data from the Berks Coalition to End Homelessness shows that homelessness in Reading and Berks has increased almost 70 percent in the last ten years and eleven percent this past year alone.
