Money Could Help Reestablish Intercity Passenger Trains

(Reading, PA) -- The Greater Reading Chamber Alliance recently announced that it received about 150-thousand dollars to study renewing train service to the area. State Sen. Judy Schwank says the money will help lay the groundwork to restore passenger rail service to the city and county. She says reestablishing an intercity passenger rail system could generate nearly a billion-and-a-half-dollars in income, over a billion-dollars in economic development and the same amount for tax revenue. She also says the idea could provide about 28-thousand people with jobs for years to come.
