Over 160 People To Lose Jobs As Berks County Mushroom Company Closes

(Reading, PA) -- Company leaders with Donna Bella Farms in Berks County have told the state labor department that they'll soon cease operations. The company filed a WARN notice this week, letting officials know that over 160 people will be laid off. That includes 123 people who were direct hires as well as 38 temporary workers. The president of Donna Bella Farms' parent company, Giorgi Mushroom Company, says the workers could be offered new positions with them at their other operations in the future. He attributes the Donna Bella shut-down to the economic downturn and its impact on the mushroom industry.
