Reading Emergency Physician Says Residents Shouldn't Be Overly Concerned By Smoke

(Reading, PA) -- The chief of pediatric emergency medicine at Reading Hospital says most Berks County residents don't need to be overly concerned about smoke from the Canadian wildfires. Dr. Christopher Valente tells the Reading Eagle that if you don't have a chronic health condition, the dangerous airborne smoke pollution is merely something to "keep an eye on." He agrees, though, that people should avoid intense physical activity outdoors. The American Lung Association is taking a more cautious position, recommending that people should just stay indoors to avoid breathing the smoke.
