Historic Plane Donated to Reading Airport
(Reading, PA) -- A plane that has flown over Berks County during its annual World War II Weekends for 20 years and that was used in a classic movie is finding a permanent home. The owner of the 1943 Vultee from the movie "Tora! Tora! Tora!" says he's donating it to the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum based at Reading Regional Airport. Owner Kevin Laird says he's given up flying now that he's 83 and simply wanted to give the aircraft to the nonprofit because he knew the organization would take care of it. The Reading Eagle reports that the plane was originally used for training but was turned in a replica Japanese dive bomber for the movie that dramatized the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
