>Officials: Fire Spread Rapidly in Reading Home -- All Five People Got Out Okay

(Reading, PA) -- Five people have been left without a place to live but all evacuated safely after a fire early Monday in Reading. Fire Marshal Jeremy Searfoss says it started about 12:30 a.m. at the home in the 25-hundred block of River Road, but it took firefighters a while to start work on it because of where the fire hydrants were. Once inside, Searfoss says firefighters found a "significant amount of contents" that contributed to the fire. He adds that there also was an issue with leaking propane cylinders. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation but the chief says the house may be a total loss because of the extent of damage.
