Three More Farms Preserved from Development

(Berks Co., PA) -- Three Berks County families have forged a partnership with the state to preserve their farms. By selling their development rights, farm owners ensure their lands will remain farms and not be used for residential or commercial use. The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has announced that the state recently preserved a little more than two-thousand acres with an investment of more than 10-million dollars. The three Berks farms preserved include property of Nathaniel and Rebecca Weaver Burkholder in Richmond Township, Charles and Linda Evans' 51-acre crop farm in Jefferson Township and the 120-acre dairy farm of Elizabeth Moore in Tulpehoken Township. Pennsylvania leads the country in preserved farmland.
