Firefighter Allegedly Stole $900K to Support Gambling Habit

(Reading, PA) - The Berks County District attorney has brought charges against a firefighter who allegedly stole from his company to pay for a gambling habit. Investigators say 51-year-old Kenneth Long took nearly 900-thousand-dollars from various bank accounts that belonged to the Birdsboro Union Fire Company while he served as treasurer. The district attorney said Long also admitted to forging the signatures of other firefighters to conceal the missing money. The alleged thefts happened over a period of seven years. Long surrendered to Berks County officials Monday and is awaiting preliminary arraignment.
