Code Red Extended to Berks County Dog Owners Until Friday

(Reading, PA) -- The Animal Rescue League of Berks County has extended its Code Red warning for outside dogs to Thursday and Friday. Officials say they made the move after learning the heat index would be at least 95 for the rest of the week. Owners and others who care for dogs must keep them indoors, except for supervised bathroom breaks and exercise, from noon until 6 p.m. Thursday and noon until 5 p.m. Friday. Code Red measures were added to the Reading City Code in 2015. Those who don't comply with them could have their animals removed and impounded at the ARL facility in Cumru Township.
