Reading Firefighters Stay Proactive With Cancer Screenings

(Reading, PA) -- First responders in Reading are trying to be proactive in detecting potential cancers. More than 100 firefighters lined up to get pre-cancer screenings Wednesday in an event offered by Union Local 1803 and funded by the city. Officials say firefighters can more easily develop thyroid, bladder, and testicular cancers due to carcinogens they breath in, as well as from PFAS chemicals that are linked to their gear. Their test results are confidential.
