Reading City Councilors hear 11 needed actions to create new housing plan
(Reading, PA) -- Reading City Councilors have begun to hear ideas about a new fair housing plan for the city. They heard a report from Jessica Dreistadt, an advisor with Hailstone Economic, on a new five-year-plan at their meeting Monday night. Goals include creating more opportunities for city residents to access living wage jobs, adding more accessible, affordable housing units and promoting first time homebuyer opportunities, especially for people of color. Eight other goals also were outlined as part of long-term goals for the city. The plan will be coordinated with Federal Fair Housing Act to address the community's needs.
