EPA Continues Cleanup Work On Chemicals In Reading Warehouse

(Reading, PA) -- The EPA is moving into its next phase of cleaning up chemicals at the old Lincoln building in Reading. Environmental Protection Agency officials say they're now stabilizing containers for shipment. The work comes three months after two separate fires tore through the warehouse building in the 600 block of South Ninth Street. The on-scene coordinator says they've categorized and inventoried over 500 containers of chemicals that were in the basement. Work on an area of the garage is expected to finish by mid-February. City officials say once that's done, South Ninth Street will be reopened.
