Youth Shelter Approved In Berks County Would Open This Summer

(Reading, PA) -- Berks County officials are hoping to open a youth shelter this summer. County Commissioners late last week approved plans to house the shelter at the former Berks County Residential Center. The program will cover children who are custody of the county's Children and Youth Services Department. Officials say they hope to open the facility this summer after securing a state license and when the necessary funds are in place. The shelter will provide temporary housing and services for youths who have nowhere else to go.
