Berks County officials have identified the individuals involved in a tragic murder-suicide in Reading, Pennsylvania, that occurred earlier this week. The incident resulted in the deaths of Selena Zavala-Hernandes and Jesus Peñaloza Cruz, and left their two-month-old child critically injured. The bodies were discovered in a home on the 1200 block of Locust Street on Monday (February 17).

According to the Berks County District Attorney's Office, it is believed that Cruz shot Zavala-Hernandes and their infant before turning the gun on himself. The child is currently in stable-but-critical condition at a hospital in Philadelphia.

Police responded to the scene after a neighbor reported hearing gunshots. District Attorney John Adams stated that the investigation is ongoing, but it is believed that Cruz and Zavala-Hernandes were the child's parents.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
