The investigation into a significant fire in downtown Reading, Pennsylvania, is ongoing, with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) now assisting local authorities. The fire, which broke out early Wednesday morning (September 3) on the 100 block of North Fifth Street, caused extensive damage to three residential buildings and displaced nearly 40 people.
According to WPVI, the blaze began around 1:30 a.m. in a multi-level apartment building and quickly escalated to a three-alarm fire. Despite the severity of the incident, only two minor injuries were reported. Videos captured by witnesses show the flames engulfing the buildings, highlighting the fire's intensity.
Local investigators, now joined by the ATF, are focused on gathering information to determine the cause of the fire. The collaboration aims to expedite the investigation process and ensure a thorough examination of the incident.
As the investigation continues, displaced residents are seeking temporary housing and assistance. Authorities have yet to release further details on the fire's origin or potential causes.
